How to Start a Side Hustle
Are you tired of your 9-5 Jan seeming like your only option? As if you’re just going to be stuck there, doing the same thing you hate every day until you croak?
Why not start a side hustle and begin building your own career path>
Whether you’re looking to make some extra money for additional financial stability or you want to get waist-deep into your own business venture, here’s how to start a side hustle.
1. Planning
You need a plan and you need a solid one. Take a while to really get an understanding of what your preferred side hustle entails. What are the core tasks that will need to be done? What materials and equipment are needed? How do similar businesses function on a day-to-day basis?
Once you have a full understanding of what you’re getting into, start setting goals. Stay away from the general stuff like “launch the business," "get my first customer," "be a millionaire." You need a long list of smaller and more descriptive goals that cover each step of the process in detail. Think of something a little more along the lines of this.
Register business
Hire a web designer and purchase hosting service
Complete website launch
Stock products
Implement marketing strategy
Reach $1000 weekly income
Reach $2000 weekly income
Reach $5000 weekly income
Expand to second product category
Etc.
That’s just a list of made-up goals, but you should get the point. These need to be easily identifiable and tangible. Once you have your goals created, it's time to set up a timeline. Your timeline will be a schedule for when you expect to achieve each goal.
Don’t be too generous with this. It should be reasonable, but also challenging. Don’t give yourself a year to complete the website, give yourself a month.
2. Register the Business
Unfortunately, even in the land of the free, you cannot just start selling things or offering services without informing Uncle Sam. When you start a business, you need to register it with the government for taxation and regulation purposes.
In many cases, this can all be done online for less than $100. So, take your time and make sure you get this part done BEFORE your launch to ensure you don't have the feds knocking your door down and complaining about you operating an unlicensed business.
3. Plan Your Marketing Strategy
Before you launch, you need to have a marketing plan built from the ground up. Marketing is key for any business, and if you don’t put enough effort into building a surefire plan, your business can fail out of the gate.
You can get a professional marketing agency to help with this step, or you can set the groundwork yourself.
4. Implement and Excel
Once you have all three of these tasks handled, it’s time to implement everything and get started on the fast road to success.
Starting a side hustle is hard work, but it pays off with financial freedom and the ability to live life how you want to. Don’t wait. Start planning yours ASAP!
